Time Lord Victorious unites the Eighth and Tenth Doctors (Paul McGann and David Tennant) in a creative new Doctor Who story!

Doctor Who’s multi-platform story arc, Time Lord Victorious, is the gift that keeps on giving. About three months ago, we learned a little bit about this ambitious project: it will bring together multiple Doctors from the past so they can defend Gallifrey from a threat that will attack across comics, magazines, audiobooks and more.

The latest update is one I’m particularly hyped about, because it involves my favorite Doctor: David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor, who will be joining forces with Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor for an audio adventure by Big Finish.

Echoes of Extinction will not only involve Tennant and McGann, but it will have the Ood and the Daleks! The Ood, if you don’t remember, are the Cthulhu-looking aliens who look like Captain Davy Jones had a kid with a squid.

This new Doctor Who story will be available in December 2020 as a special-edition vinyl (how cool!) as well as via digital download; you can pre-order it through Big Finish for $8.99. For those who buy the vinyl, you can flip it around to hear how each Doctor comes face-to-face with the same threats.

According to Tennant, the Doctor we meet in Time Lord Victorious is quite different than the one we’ve grown accustomed to over the years.

"The Doctor in Time Lord Victorious is a different character. He’s slightly lonelier, slightly scratchier, when he doesn’t have one of his pals to hold him back. […] But it’s nice to tell stories from different times of his life. You just have to try and make sure you’re in the right mindset. The script is fascinating. […] I’ve only got one side of it, but I’m very aware there’s more to this story, that there’s another Doctor on the other side of the disc. I look forward to getting my LP so I can listen to it all."

Along with McGann and Tennant, Time Lord Victorious will also feature Arthur Darvill as Rory and Burn Gorman as Torchwood’s Owen Harper. I am so here for these Doctor Who blasts from the past!

The unique format for Echoes of Extinction is what has really caught my eye. That it’s a double-sided story you can experience by flipping to the other side is incredibly awesome. The stories will stand as their own but always have another side to explore. Leave it to Doctor Who to get this creative!
