Watch Maisie Williams star in the gruesome trailer for The Owners
By Ashley Hurst
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams (Arya) has a new movie coming out: a horror-thriller about a home invasion gone sideways. Watch the trailer!
Maisie Williams is continuing to do great new work since ending her eight-year long run as Arya Stark on Game of Thrones. Later this month, we (might) be able to see her in The New Mutants, making her the second Game of Thrones veteran to join the X-Men franchise after Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) was cast as Jean Grey. And now, Williams is tackling the horror/thriller genre with The Owners, from director Julius Berg. Check out the trailer:
The Owners is adapted from the 2011 graphic novel Une Nuit de Pleine Lune (translated to Night of the Full Moon) by acclaimed Belgian comic creators Hermann Huppen and Yves Huppen. Sharing a lot of similarities to the breakout 2016 home invasion movie Don’t Breath, The Owners tells the story of a group of friends who attempt to burgle an empty house containing a safe full of cash, but when the owners (an elderly couple) unexpectedly return from their night out, things take a turn for the strange and crazy, and it becomes a housebound cat and mouse movie. From the trailer, it’s evident that this isn’t a movie for the squeamish!
Williams plays Mary, one of the friends. She’s less keen to follow through with the robbery but is forced into it by her delinquent boyfriend. The movie also stars Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit, Doctor Who), Jake Curran (Stardust), Rita Tushingham (Vera), Ian Kenny (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Andrew Ellis (Teen Spirit).
RLJE Films is set to release The Owners in theatres, on-demand, and digital on September 4!
As well as The Owners, in the fall Williams will be in Two Weeks To Live on Sky. In her first lead TV role since Game of Thrones, she’ll play “strange young misfit” Kim Stokes, who lives on the run from not only the police but also a group of gangsters out to kill her.
“I was very excited to jump into something that was kind of the polar opposite of Game of Thrones,” Williams told RadioTimes.com. “As far as Kim goes, there are definitely similarities between her and Arya Stark, but in terms of being in a contemporary piece… it’s a very different vibe for me.”
Williams was terrific on Game of Thrones and these new projects are lucky to have her. She definitely has a bright future in the industry!
