If Doctor Who icon David Tennant can get on Harry Potter AND Star Trek, he’ll get close to achieving nerd nirvana.
The Harry Potter film franchise spans a decade and boasts the talents of some of the most famous actors in the world. From the late Alan Rickman to Maggie Smith, this franchise had stars wall to wall.
While some of these actors had recurring roles in the movies, others only popped in for one film, including Doctor Who’s David Tennant. He was in the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as one of Voldemort’s most loyal supporters, Bartemius Crouch Jr.
In the film, the younger Crouch initially went undercover as “Mad Eye Moody,” assigned by the Dark Lord to rig the Triwizard Tournament results so Harry Potter would emerge victorious, but his infamous tongue flick gave his secret away.
While participating in a Reddit AMA to promote the second season of his AMAZING podcast “David Tennant Does A Podcast With…” Tennant looked back on his short time on the Harry Potter set:
"I think I did 10 days or so over a year, so I always felt a bit like a visitor. But it was great to be part of something so extraordinary."
Only 10 days over a year? I know he wasn’t in it that much but I remember his time in the movie very vividly. Maybe it’s because of that weird tongue flick thing…does that still weird anyone out to this day or is it just me?
While Tennant has crossed off starring in Harry Potter from his list of cool things to do, there are other franchises the Ninth Doctor would like to be a part of. “Star Trek would be great,” he revealed. “After talking to George Takei for the podcast I’ve got a bit immersed in it.”
Being a part of the Star Trek universe is something that seems right up Tennant’s alley. After all, the Borg were inspired by the Cybermen from Doctor Who. It’s a lateral move!
I think I speak for many, many fans (the AMA was overflowing with enthusiastic comments) when I say we’d love to see Tennant in the Star Trek universe. And with how many Trek shows they have on now, it shouldn’t be that hard to find him a spot. Get on it, CBS All Access!
