Fine, let’s talk about the rumor that Shia “Just Do It!” LeBeouf may play Iceman in the X-Men reboot we all know is coming sooner or later.

And suddenly the world is full of rumors about Shia LaBeouf. The latest comes from We Got This Covered, which has it that the Holes and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull star is in consideration to play the mutant Iceman when Marvel Studios inevitably reboots the X-Men franchise, which Disney bought the rights to do when it purchased 20th Century Fox last year.

We should pause here to say that We Got This Covered is known to promote some pretty wild rumors, but I can’t help it: there’s a lot of excitement over the possibility of the X-Men coming into the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, and it’s fun to think about the possibilities.

Iceman (real name Bobby Drake) is one of the original X-Men, debuting waaaaaay back in The X-Men #1 in September of 1963. As you can guess from the name, he has the power to freeze stuff. He’s been a mainstay of X-titles for decades, although he never had a prominent role in any of the X-Men movies Fox made over the past 20 years. He’s also one of the most prominent gay superheroes out there.

Is LaBeouf actually playing him? I have no idea; he’s a good enough actor, although you’d figure Marvel would want to cast a gay man in the role.

If LeBeouf does land the part, it would represent a pivot from his “What On Earth Is He Doing?” period, which he spent dancing in his underpants in Sia music videos and posting infamous viral shorts where he yells at the screen:

Hollywood does love a comeback.

According to WGTC, LaBeouf is also in consideration to play Moon Knight, a Marvel superhero who’s getting his own show on Disney+. Moon Knight is a rich guy who uses his wealth to pay for the tools that let him fight crime. Think Batman, but he wears a white suit instead of a black one. And sometimes he has actual superpowers.

So is LaBeouf actually in consideration for any of these roles? I have no idea — again, WGTC should be approached with caution — but if nothing else the interest in the rumor proves that people are ready for X-Men casting news.

And as long as we’re on the subject, there are other mutants LaBeouf could play. BossLogic cast him as frontman Wolverine in a new piece of art:

It’ll do for now.
