Info continues to trickle out about Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic The Wheel of Time series.
As Hollywood (and the rest of the world) slowly gets back to work, we’re getting more information on Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time. A new image from the set gives us a look at some of the series’ main antagonists, the Children of Light, an independent military organization dedicated to rooting out evil wherever they find it. They have good intentions, but their zeal can get pretty out of control.
SPOILERS follow below.
Posted on Reddit, this image originated on the Instagram account for The Wheel of Time site The Daily Trolloc. We won’t post the picture here for fear of legal issues, but you can check it out here.
The image shows a trio of Children of the Light members in front of a tent, outdoors. They’re all wearing the same uniform: a white robe with a belt and an off-white sash that slashes across their torso and flows behind their backs. Their right arms are covered in white fabric, but their left arms are covered in a kind of white layered mail, with a flourish at the shoulder.
In the image, the actors’ faces are obscured, so we don’t know if these are actors who have been cast or just random Children of the Light. We know that Abdul Salis is playing Eamon Valda, a blademaster and Lord Captain of the paramilitary organization. Meanwhile, Irish actor Stuart Graham is playing Geofram Bornhald, one of the Children’s most respected generals.
As for the costumes themselves, they look a little showy for soldiers, and not particularly useful: apart from the plating on the left arms, these men don’t look like they’re wearing any armor at all.
Then again, maybe these guys are senior members, and this is what they wear when they’re not in the thick of things. Or maybe there’s more to the costumes we don’t see; this is, after all, a candid behind-the-scenes shot, not a still from the show.
Given the tents in the background, I’m guessing this is a scene from the first book, The Eye of the World, where one of our lead characters makes a lifelong enemy of the Children.
Speaking of our lead characters, Barney Harris (Mat Cauthon) shared a picture of himself, Josha Stradowski (Rand Al’Thor) and Marcus Rutherford (Perrin Aybara) paling around:
"Our ta’veren (from Barney Harris’ Instagram) from WoT"
Mat’s already laying on the jokes it seems. Also, commenters noted that Rutherford looks like he’s bulked up to play Perrin, who’s a blacksmith. Although it’s kind of hard to tell from this shot. Here’s his casting announcement photo, for reference:
The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.
