Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has been rereleased in China, and with people hungry to go back to the movie, is finding huge success!

Harry Potter is amongst the handful of movies that have been rereleased in China since the country opened up its movie theaters last month. It’s been a very tricky thing to get theaters up and running after so many closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but China has taken the plunge.

And they know what movies to use to pack people back in. This past week, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (rent it for $3.99 in HD) flew their way into theaters, in 4K and 3D for the very first time.

Um, I want to see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 4K — can you imagine how cool that must look on the big screen?!  Except I’d want to see Deathly Hallows (both parts) instead.

Given that people are so desperate to go to the movies, the rerelease made nearly $13.6 million between Friday and Sunday, and I’m not particularly shocked. As movie theaters begin to open back up in the United States.

In the case of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the Chinese rerelease has pushed it close to generating $1 billion at the box office; it’s sitting around the $991 million mark. There are currently 46 movies that have made a billion dollars, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2; will Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone be number 47?

These last few months have been difficult for so many of us. Going to the movies on a whim was a luxury we didn’t always feel grateful for, and now I think many of us are realizing how important it was to our well-being. There’s nothing like a Friday evening out with your friends watching a movie. That first Avengers: Infinity War viewing? What an experience that was!

I hope that feeling comes back soon as theaters begin to slowly open up! With all these old films being rereleased, we could be in for some very special moviegoing experiences.
