Torchwood news: Series 5’s first episode is free to download and listen to right now

If you’re missing Torchwood on television, now’s the perfect time to check out the official audio continuation by listening to the first episode for free!

It’s been almost nine years since we last saw Torchwood on our screens. While Miracle Day might not have been its strongest series, fans are still eager for the successful Doctor Who spin-off to return on television.

Sadly, it’s not looking likely: despite John Barrowman once claiming that only the showrunner of Doctor Who can bring it back, Chris Chibnall has unsurprisingly confirmed that the only person who can really do that is show creator Russell T Davies. And Davies has shown no interest in doing that anytime soon.

However, the series has continued in several forms since then, at least. For example, there’s the novel Exodus Code. Not only does it explicitly take place after Miracle Day, but it’s also been written by John and Carole E. Barrowman. They’ve also written for the Torchwood comic series published by Titan Comics.

But if there’s one continuation that comes close to matching the TV series, it’s Big Finish’s audio series. Essentially, the arcs Aliens Among Us and God Among Us represent the official fifth and sixth series of the show. Big Finish has even had some gentle guidance from Russell T Davies himself, particularly with the creation of some of the new characters.

Changes Everything

If you’ve yet to listen to either of the two series, then Big Finish has great news for you. The first episode of Aliens Among Us, Changes Everything by James Goss, is now free to download and listen to right now from Big Finish!

Fans may have noticed that it bears a clear resemblance to the name of the TV series’s first episode, Everything Changes. It’s not surprising that it takes this approach – it essentially acts as a fresh starting point for the series, and reintroduces Torchwood through the eyes of newcomer Tyler.
