Trailer: The Fourth and Tenth Doctors join forces for Doctor Who: Out of Time

The Fourth and Tenth Doctors (Tom Baker and David Tennant) may be the most beloved incarnations, and now they’re teaming up for a new audio adventure!

Doctor Who may be off the air right now, but Big Finish Productions is going all-in on giving fans the further adventures of the Doctor while we wait. There’s Time Lord Victorious, an interconnected Doctor Who story that will play out across audio adventures, books, comics and more. There’s even a new solo project coming starring Christopher Eccleston, who kicked off the Doctor Who revival in 2005 as the Ninth Doctor. He’s been hesitant to return to the role, but Big Finish got him.

Later this month, the company will be releasing Doctor Who: Out of Time, an audio adventure that unites the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) with the Fourth (Tom Baker). Although there’s room for interpretation, these are quite possibly the two most beloved Doctors out there, so a collaboration is a big deal.

Doctor Who: Out of Time finds the Tenth Doctor visiting the Cathedral of Contemplation, a place that exists “outside of history itself” where he can look back on his adventures before he regenerates. Sounds relaxing enough, but this is a Doctor Who story, so you know things are about to go pear-shaped.

Indeed, once he gets there, the Tenth Doctor runs into a former version of himself and gets thrust into an all-out war with the Daleks (Nickolas Briggs). And off we go!

“Tom Baker was obviously the first Doctor that I knew,” Tennant said when this project was announced back in May. “I was small when he took over and I grew up through the seven years that he was the Doctor.”

"I was a massive fan. I met him in John Menzies in Glasgow and he signed my book. I had a doll of him. All that. Tom Baker was very much the Doctor. There is something about the way he is associated with the character that seems utterly timeless."

And now Tennant gets to work beside Baker…remotely, of course. Still, very cool.
