Stranger Things season 4 “won’t be the end”
By Dan Selcke
We don’t know exactly how long Stranger Things will go on at Netflix, but the creators assure us that this upcoming fourth season isn’t the last.
Like most every other show on the face of the Earth, filming on Stranger Things was abruptly halted this year when the coronavirus came calling. New seasons of Netflix’s horror hit were already slow in coming, and the wait for season 4 has been especially agonizing given how season 3 ended, with one major character dead (or so it seemed, anyway) and uncertain futures for many of the monster-fighting gang left behind in Hawkins, Indiana.
The show is getting back to work, but we probably won’t see season 4 as soon as we were hoping. Still, creator Ross Duffer sees an upside. “We’ve had a lot more time to work on the scripts,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we’re able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments.”
That is good news. It may take us longer to get more TV, but when we get it, it should be excellent. I’m actually kind of excited to see that play out for multiple shows.
But back to Stranger Things, Duffer also had something to say about the ending of the show. To wit: when is it coming? “Season four won’t be the end,” he assures us. “We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”
So there you have it: Stranger Things will be around for at least two more seasons, something star David Harbour (Sheriff Jim Hopper) also hinted at about a month back.
As for how the show will end, that’s obviously still a mystery. But however it goes out, the creators are certain they’re on the right path. “We’ve known the ending of the show for quite a while,” Matt Duffer said a while ago.
Personally, I think five seasons sounds about right for Stranger Things. The quality has remained very consistent so far, and I’d hate to see it start to flag. Plus, there’s only so long the young cast can convincingly play middle-schoolers.
But that’ll still be a while. In the meantime, filming goes on:
