Torchwood of the 1950s is explored in Torchwood Soho – out now!
By James Aggas
Torchwood Soho: Parasite is a brand new spin-off box set that explores the secret organization during the 1950s, starring Samuel Barnett and Tom Price.
Big Finish’s latest Torchwood release is a pretty exciting one. In the 2018 story Goodbye, Piccadilly, both the audience and the (rather unfortunate) Sergeant Andy Davidson (Tom Price) were introduced to 1950s Soho – at least, a version of 1950s Soho as seen through the eyes of Torchwood. It was an extremely fun story and offered a completely fresh look at both the world and the history of the organization.
Unsurprisingly, both the fans and Big Finish wanted to explore this world even further. Which is why we now have Torchwood Soho – a new audio series that expands on the world of 1950s Soho even further.
Along with featuring Sergeant Andy, the series also sees the return of the fun but dangerous character of Norton Folgate. Played by Samuel Barnett (perhaps best known to sci-fi fans for his titular role in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), Norton has become one of the standout characters in the Torchwood audios. So a new spin-off box set focused on him is more than welcome.

New characters
Along with the return of Andy and Norton, Dervla Kirwan and David Troughton also star in this series as Lizbeth Hayhoe and Rigsby, respectively. Hayhoe is Norton’s boss, so she’s definitely got her work cut out for her, while Rigsby is the leader of Torchwood Soho.
Actor Tom Price is, unsurprisingly, happy to delve even further into the world of the Doctor Who spin-off.
"The listeners really like what Big Finish is doing with Torchwood, which means we can rock up and do more. It’s amazing that the world of Torchwood has been built on good foundations and we can keep adding to it."
This certainly sounds like an exciting listen. All the stories that have featured Andy and Norton have been an absolute joy to listen to so far, and I suspect that this will be no exception.
Torchwood Soho: Parasite is available now on CD and download directly from Big Finish’s website. Expect our review on it next week.
