J.C. Chandor tapped to direct Spider-Man spin-off film Kraven the Hunter

While most of Hollywood is inching itself forward amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Sony appears to be charging full steam ahead with it’s Spider-Man universe.

On the heels of news that Olivia Wilde will direct a Spider-Woman movie, Sony is poised to ink J.C. Chandor to head its Kraven the Hunter flick per Deadline. Chandor, perhaps best known for the superb action thriller Triple Frontier on Netflix, marks a serious step forward for the film, as well as the Spider-Man franchise.

Indeed, the Spider-Man franchise will eventually boast appearances by virtually every member of the Spider-Man lexicon except Spider-Man himself. While the franchise namesake remains on loan to Walt Disney and its Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony has steadily expanded its catalog.

Both the Tom Hardy led Venom sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the Jared Leto headlined Morbius are already in the can and ready for a 2021 release. Sony is also in various stages of development on a Madame Web and Jackpot film, in addition to the aforementioned Spider-Woman and Kraven films.

For those unfamiliar, Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man’s most dogged opponents. A master hunter who ingests a mystical potion that grants him superhuman strength and agility, Kraven leans towards being an anti-hero by following a strict moral code that includes fighting his opponents fairly. No word on a potential release date for the film.
