Trailer: Ridley Scott’s androids-vs-Christians drama Raised by Wolves looks bonkers

Alien and Gladiator director Ridley Scott brings us Raised by Wolves, a sci-fi drama about an android protecting her human children from space Crusaders.

A couple weeks back, HBO Max dropped the first look at Raised by Wolves, a new sci-fi drama created by Aaron Guzikowski and Ridley Scott (!), the guy behind Alien and Gladiator. Even though it was arriving in a few short weeks, I’d never heard of this show.

It looks nuts, though. It’s about a pair of androids — Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) — tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet years after a great war destroys the Earth. Now, a new trailer fills in some of the details. Take a look:

The original synopsis said that Mother’s human colony was at risk at being torn apart because of “religious differences.” Now we see what look like actual sci-fi Crusaders with start-bursts on their space armor trudging across the landscape of a ruined planet, and Mother fighting them with sonic Black Canary blasts and changing into her naked flying angel form.

This could be a complete mess or it could be brilliant. Either way, it has my attention.

The show also stars Vikings star Travis Fimmel as a human named Marcus. Scott directed the first two of 10 episodes himself, which again makes me wonder why I hadn’t heard more about this before; Scott is a big name.

In any case, the series premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, September 3. Maybe this can be the first big original hit for HBO Max…? Weirder things have happened.
