Could Netflix be considering Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa for a role in its upcoming Witcher prequel series, Blood Origin?

Netflix’s The Witcher only has one season under its belt, but it’s already on its way to becoming the next big fantasy franchise. Starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, the show just resumed production on its second season, and Netflix has plans to blow the franchise wide open.

Not long after The Witcher debuted (and quickly became one of the most in-demand streaming series), Netflix announced it was making an animated prequel movie: The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, about “a powerful new threat facing The Continent.”

Then, just last month, Netflix announced a six-part prequel series called Blood Origin. This series will dive into the show’s past and introduce us to the very first Witcher.

Naturally, the rumor mill began to grind after the prequel was announced, with fans talking about what they’d like to see from the spin-off…and who they’d like to see in it. One rumor will be particularly exciting for Game of Thrones fans: according to We Got This Covered, Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) is being considered for a “key role.”

Now, WGTC is known for reporting some pretty wild rumors, but it’s not like this would be Momoa’s first genre adventure following his time as the leader of the Dothraki. Momoa plays Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, and already has a solo movie under his belt with a sequel on the way. He also recently starred in See, a post-apocalyptic fantasy epic for Apple TV+ that was met with mixed reviews.

All this is to say that the guy clearly has an interest in the fantasy genre, so joining The Witcher franchise doesn’t seem unreasonableHe’s got experience, he’s got charisma, and he has a connection to Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the DCEU; for all we know Cavill’s the one who pitched Momoa on the prequel. “We can both be witchers!”

We’ll have to wait to see if anything comes of these rumors, but Momoa would make a nice addition to The Witcher world. The prequel series is expected to arrive at the end of next year the earliest.
