New Game of Thrones oral history will look at “what went on in front of the cameras and…behind the scenes…the tough decisions…the reasons why.”

Earlier this summer, journalist James Hibberd announced that he would be releasing an oral history book all about Game of Thrones, with accounts drawn from his time covering the show as Entertainment Weekly’s Westeros correspondent.

Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series is ambitious. It features hundreds of interviews with cast and crew, details the making of the “disastrous” original pilot, gives us exclusive new insights into the divisive final season, and explores the upcoming House of the Dragon prequel series, as well as “other prequel projects currently in development.” It’ll definitely be a page-turner for Game of Thrones fans.

And now, ahead of the book’s October release, we can exclusively reveal what A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin himself thought of Hibberd’s book:

"James Hibberd covered Game of Thrones from start to finish, and he knows where all the bodies are buried. It’s all here, in his oral history of the series: how it began, how it ended, dragons and direwolves, what went on in front of the cameras and what went on behind the scenes, the triumphs and the stumbles, the tough decisions, the forks in the road, the reasons why. Actors, directors, showrunners, producers, executives, even me… Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon has it all, everything you ever wanted to know. GoT was an amazing ride. Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon is an amazing read."

That’s high praise from Martin, who continues to work on the sixth novel in the series, The Winds of Winter.

In addition to Hibberd’s many behind-the-scenes observations, which sound like they should be enough to warrant purchasing the book, Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon will feature over 70 never-before-seen photos taken from his many visits to the set.

Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon lands in stores on October 6, but you can place your pre-order here.
