Arnold Schwarzenegger headed to TV for father-daughter spy series

Legendary action star and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger is making his first foray into scripted television.
In another first for this wild year, legendary action star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is making his first attempt at scripted television, teaming up with Scorpion showrunner Nick Santora to develop a father-daughter spy adventure series. Casting is underway for the daughter.
Santora is also serving as showrunner on Amazon’s adaptation of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, itself a heavy action-based thriller. According to Deadline, producers Skydance Television are already shopping the new series to streaming partners. Schwarzenegger has worked with Skydance in the past on movies like Terminator: Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate, while Santora has an overall development deal with the company.
Personally, I think it would be great to see this go more straight-edged. Schwarzenegger can do fish-out-of-water comedy well — the description kinds of gives us True Lies vibes, where Schwarzenegger played a spy who kept his job secret from his wife and daughter — but I’d love to see a show that revolves around career spies who just happen to be related, as opposed to one or the other being dragged into the spy game. Exploring the family dynamic within that world, testing each other’s trust and loyalty, could be a more original take.
Regardless, color me intrigued.
