The second season of Batwoman, which will see Javicia Leslie step into the title role in place of Ruby Rose, is officially underway.

Batwoman has officially begun production on season 2, with all the extra precautions that entails when you’re filming a TV show in the age of COVID-19. Although the show is young, it’s already going through some big changes, with original leading woman Ruby Rose out as Kate Kane and Javicia Leslie in as Ryan Wilder, the new female Caped Crusader. We’ll all eager to see what’s in store for this CW superhero drama.

But we’re not as eager as showrunner Caroline Dries, who took to Twitter to share her feelings and honor the cast and crew. With all the unexpected changes the show has gone through, I’m sure getting back to work must feel ecstatic.

Personally, as bummed as I was about Ruby Rose leaving, I’m look forward to seeing what happens with the show going forward. Rose made her mark as Kate Kane, I think we will be pleasantly surprised at how great Javicia Leslie is as her successor. Based on her interests and her outlook, she seems to be a perfect fit, and down to go on “a long journey” with the character.

I’m also excited to see how Leslie fits in with the rest of the cast, who are all returning for the show’s second season. But I think most importantly, we’re all very curious to see how the shift in characters will be explained. We know that the new season isn’t just going to start up with Ryan Wilder already Batwoman: Kate Kane’s disappearance will be a part of the season, as will Ryan’s transition into her new role. It’s the details that elude us.

So many questions, but alas, we will have to wait until 2021 to see how everything plays out.
