Watch the spectacular trailer for Dune!
By Dan Selcke
The trailer for Dune has everything you could want: ferocious sandworms, sci-fi moodiness, and stars to rival anything in the night sky. Watch:
It’s here: the trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi classic Dune.
Really briefly, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), the scion of a noble house who’s family travels to the desert planet of Arrakis, aka Dune, to rule it at the behest of the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. While there, they content with the rival Harkonnen family, the native Fremen people, and monstrous sandworms so big they can swallow space frigates in one gulp.
But enough talk. Watch!
People have tried to adapt Dune for the screen before, but it’s never quite worked. The work is dense and heady and twisty, which might account for why Warner Bros. chose to score the trailer with a moody(er) version of Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse.”
This could be the one, though. The cast is stupid amazing, with folks like Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin and Zendaya and Oscar Isaac and Dave Bautista and Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem all on board. And Villeneuve, who directed excellent sci-fi movies like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, seems to have a great sense of the slow-burning mood and atmosphere needed to do Herbert’s vision justice. The imagery in the trailer is pretty spectacular, especially the sandworms; those should be something to remember.
I’m pretty psyched for this one. What do you make of it?
