Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors will be in Ant-Man 3 as Kang the Conqueror, leading a lot of fans to wonder if the Young Avengers are on the way…
Actor Jonathan Majors is having a good year. First, he appeared in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods on Netflix. As we speak, he’s headlining HBO’s phantasmagoric Lovecraft Country. Now, Deadline reports that he will play the villain Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3.

In the comics, Kang the Conqueror is a time-traveler who’s battled everyone from Thor to Spider-Man to the Avengers. He’s also an prominent enemy of the Young Avengers, a team of adolescent superheroes who mostly have ties to members of the original Avengers team (common members include Hulkling, Wiccan and a younger Kate Bishop, Hawkeye’s protégé). Then there’s Iron Lad, who may have an especially significant connection with Kang, but we’ll leave the specifics for an eventual movie.
Anyway, the announcement that Kang is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe has lots of fans on Twitter wondering if this means the Young Avengers will show up, either in Ant-Man 3 or somewhere down the line.

Wiccan & Speed in WandaVision
Kang the Conqueror (ie Iron Lad) + older Cassie Lang in Ant-Man 3
Maybe: Patriot in F&WS? Kid Loki in Loki? Hulkling and/or Marvel Boy in CM2?

Of course, we’ll have to see exactly how Ant-Man 3 uses Kang before jumping to conclusions, but Marvel does need new heroes now that they’re entering Phase 4, so…
Peyton Reed, who directed the first two Ant-Man films, will return to direct the threequel. It’s looking to start production next year; there’s no release date currently set.
