After several false starts, the Uncharted movie is finally moving along, although it did give star Tom Holland a bruise modesty forbids him from showing us.

Uncharted is one of those movies that got tossed around in Hollywood for years before it finally got underway. The version that eventually went forward is a prequel to the popular video game series, with current reigning Spider-Man Tom Holland starring as a younger version of famed adventurer Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle on board as supporting cast members.

And even that version had to shut down production on its very first day thanks to the coronavirus. But things are back on track now, with Holland sharing on Instagram that things are moving right along:

"Filming is going so well. The film is like everything I ever dreamed it would. I don’t know if you guys played the games, but I was such a huge fan of the [series]."

The Uncharted games, which take a lot of cues from Indiana Jones and other adventure franchises, set a new benchmark for narrative storytelling in gaming, and have always seemed like they’d make good movies.

But of course, when you have real actors scrambling over real sets and climbing up real rock faces, there are added risks. “I do have the biggest bruise of all time, though, on my leg,” Holland said. “But it’s in a bit of a revealing area for Instagram Live. I think I would get shut down [for showing you]. It’s a glorious bruise.”

Once the movie comes out maybe we can identified which action scene gave him that bruise.

Uncharted, from Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, is due out on July 16, 2021.
