Chris Evans addresses “embarrassing” NSFW pic incident
By Dan Selcke
As Chris Evans himself said, he had a “very interesting weekend.”
If you’re just now hearing about this story, I’ll get you caught up in as quick and direct a way as I can: Marvel star Chris Evans, Captain America himself, leaked his own dick pics. He was playing a virtual game of “Heads Up,” shared the photo roll on his phone with a few of his 5.7 million followers, and…there it was.
That was a few days ago now. Most people — including fellow Avenger Mark “the Hulk” Ruffalo — seemed to take it as an embarrassing whoopsie to be laughed off:
Evans also alluded to the incident by using all the attention to get people to vote in the upcoming presidential election:
Then, today, Evans appeared on the talk show Tamron Hall to discuss A Starting Point, a bipartisan civic engagement website he created with Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani. But naturally, they had to talk about the nudes:
"Look, it was a very interesting weekend, full of lessons learned. You know, things happen. It’s embarrassing but you gotta roll with the punches. I will say, I have some pretty fantastic fans who really came to my support. That was really, really nice."
It was nice to see people mostly laugh off the incident, but I think that fellow MCU star Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis in the Thor movies) has a good point, too:
This is far from the first time a celebrities’ nude pics have been leaked online, and I can’t be the only person thinking that a lot of the time, particularly when the pictures are of a woman, people are way less chill about it than they’re being right now. And in a lot of those other cases, the pictures come out because the women’s phones are hacked, not because of a whoopsie they made.
Optimistically, maybe the public is turning a corner. Also, the note about voting is pretty good.
