Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe talk about what challenges lie ahead for Jamie and Claire in season 6.
Outlander gave us a brief hiatus from the Droughtlander over the last month as fans were treated to an End of Summer Series featuring the cast and crew. It’s been a fun month, the four-part series came to an end this past Sunday.
But stars Caitriona Balfe (Claire) and Sam Heughan (Jamie) made sure it went out with a bang. They had plenty to talk about, including their quarantine activities, their socially-distanced hangout, and their former costar Graham McTavish’s upcoming book Clanlands, which he wrote with Heughan.
Of course, Outlander fans were really there to find out anything they could about the show’s elusive sixth season. They’re not back to work just yet, so we’re all curious about what they can tell us this early on.
Naturally, they couldn’t say much. However, they did share what they hope Outlander season 6 will bring to the table. Given the tumultuous arc of season 5 and how things came to an end, the Fraser family has a lot of healing to do.
Balfe asked Heughan what he’s most looking forward to. Our favorite Scotsman reported that he’s about halfway through the sixth Outlander book, “A Breath of Snow and Ashes,” and while he doesn’t know where things will end up, he does look forward to the family coming together after being “fractured” in the season 5 finale.
We can all agree that Claire has a long journey ahead. Balfe is also looking forward to her character’s process, and how the family will come together to help her heal. Given the trauma Claire endured in the season 5 finale, I know I’m very nervous about the impact it will have on all the characters, her most of all.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know when exactly season 6 will begin production, much less when it will premiere. But with Hollywood getting back on its feet after shutting down due to COVID-19, I think we can expect some movement on the Outlander’s front in the coming days.
