WandaVision officially coming to Disney+ in 2020
By Dan Selcke
It looks like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first of Disney’s MCU spinoff shows, may be pushed in 2021. But there’s a savior on the horizon…
Disney+ isn’t even a year out and it’s already been a huge success for the company, racking up far more subscribers than initially anticipated. That could be do in part to the coronavirus, which has kept a lot of people at home looking for stuff to watch. At the same time, the virus has delayed shows that were originally supposed to be on the service by now, like Marvel’s Avengers spinoff The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Disney has a lot of Marvel shows in development, including Loki, Hawkeye and She-Hulk. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was to be the vanguard, but it wasn’t to be. The show also doesn’t appear in a newly released “Coming Soon 2020” trailer Disney just put out today, so it’s looking like it’s probably pushed back to 2021.
But you know what is that trailer? WandaVision, a Marvel spinoff show that explores what happens with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Now, you might be saying, “What do you mean happens to Vision after Endgame? He was killed dead.” And he was killed, and not not Snapped away only to brought back like a lot of other heroes. Thanos pretty much made sure that Vision couldn’t come back…and yet he is. How?
Well, we don’t know, but we do know that Wanda — known in the comics as the Scarlett Witch — has some wacky reality-bending powers that could open a lot of new doors. And indeed, the few images and teasers we’ve had for the series indicate that things are gonna get weird. For instance, why do Wanda and Vision appear to be stuck in some kind of I Love Lucy-style 1950s sitcom? Tune in this year to find out:
And the real news is that the show is coming this year. After The Falcon and the Winter Soldier got delayed, we all feared WandaVision would suffer the same fate, but now it looks like it will be the vanguard show instead. I’m all for Disney putting its weirdest foot forward when it comes to its Marvel spinoffs.
There’s a lot of other stuff in the trailer. This year, we’ll be treated to stuff like The Right Stuff, Ever After, X2: X-Men United, Big, Into the Woods, Maleficent, Hidden Figures, the original Disney+ film Clouds and more.
