All the DC Universe scripted shows are migrating over to HBO Max, including a third season of Harley Quinn! DC Universe will stick around, but just for comics.

Well, it finally happened. We’ve been hearing for awhile that original shows that began on DC Universe — stuff like Doom Patrol and Titans — would be continuing on HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service. Today, WarnerMedia made the exodus official, and threw in the news that it had ordered a third season of Harley Quinn, an animated series that’s already gained a pretty passionate cult following over on DC Universe.

It’s great to hear that Harley Quinn is getting another season. As for DC Universe shows migrating to HBO Max, I only wonder why it didn’t happen sooner. DC Universe always seemed a little too niche to gain a foothold in a streaming world dominated by the likes of Netflix and Disney+, and with parent company WarnerMedia having another streaming service with a wider umbrella, this just makes sense.

That said, DC Universe isn’t going away: it’s transforming into DC Universe Infinite, which will double down on the service’s focus on comics. “With access to more than 24,000 comic books at launch, DC UNIVERSE INFINITE subscribers will also encounter digital-first comics, exclusive access to DC fan events, as well as a steady stream of recently released comics six months after the physical versions hit store shelves,” WarnerMedia said in a press release. “Following its initial launch, DC UNIVERSE INFINITE will begin expanding globally in SUMMER 2021.”

DC Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee also weighed in on the move: “I’m excited to share that not only will DC UNIVERSE INFINITE members still be able to read all of the great comics that they’ve enjoyed but new issues are debuting on the platform quicker than before, digital first exclusives are being created, and the members-only events will begin as soon as possible. There has never been a better time to be a DC fan!”

On the movie front, Warner Bros. has big stuff like The BatmanThe Suicide SquadThe FlashAquaman 2Shazam 2 and Black Adam all on the horizon. And then of course there’s Wonder Woman 1984, which has again been delayed but will surely release one of these days.

DC may have trailed Marvel when it comes to movies, but they’re catching up, and they’ve beaten their rival company to the punch when it comes to getting TV shows out there, although Marvel is readying plenty of those. So yes, it is a pretty good time to be a DC fan, or a fan of superheroes in general.
