The second season of The Mandalorian will show us “the power of the Child, what the Child really means.” And there are plans way beyond that…
The second season of The Mandalorian airs next month, and we’re definitely psyched to rejoin Din Djarin and Baby Yoda as they trek across the galaxy. Our hype is at the point where we would consider getting this Baby Yoda LEGO set:
The second season promises to be a great time. Mando is looking for Baby Yoda’s people, and his search will apparently bring him in contact with the Jedi, or what’s left of them in this period of Star Wars history. We’ve also heard some fan favorite characters may show up, too…
Meanwhile, Moff Gideon is hot on their trailer, Darksaber in tow. There’s a still a lot we don’t know about this villainous character. Why does he want Baby Yoda? How did he get his hands on such a legendary weapon?
To hear Esposito talk about it to PEOPLE, we may not find out for a while, but we will find out. “He could be here to save the universe, he could be here to get what he can for himself or the people that he’s working with,” Esposito mused. “We don’t know that yet. So he’s also a very big mystery.”
"[In season 2,] you’re gonna start to find out the power of the Child, what the Child really means. You will also start to uncover the origins of the Darksaber that Moff Gideon has and how that plays into previous Star Wars history connected to The Clone Wars and other shows, and you’ll start to get a real dramatic sense of the territory."
The first season of The Mandalorian focused pretty tightly on Mando and Baby Yoda, and as much as I enjoyed that, I’m all for the world opening up a bit.
And it sounds like there are plans well beyond that. “We’re living in a universe that is huge and there’s so much to explore,” Esposito said. “So I think this show is going to lay the ground work for the depth and breath that’s gonna come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”
It’s good to hear that Disney is gearing up for the long haul with this show. The Mandalorian was the first big original show on Disney+, and it was a huge hit, kicking off the streaming service on a great note. It makes sense that Disney would want to double down and make this a flagship series, especially now that it has a respectable Emmy haul. What do you think? Seven seasons before the end?
The Mandalorian season 2 comes out on October 30. So does that Baby Yoda LEGO, incidentally.
