Supergirl to take her final flight with season 6

The CW announces that Supergirl’s upcoming sixth season will be its last, but at least star Melissa Benoist promises the show will go out on a high note.

Supergirl is officially coming to an end after its sixth season, according to a new announcement from The CW, Warner Bros. TV, and Berlanti Productions. Was it canceled? Or was this a conscious decision from the creators and executive producers? Things aren’t clear yet, but I do know I’m nursing my aching heart. This may not be my favorite Arrowverse CWverse show, but I have a special bond with it, since I saw the pilot early at multiple cons back in the day.

Supergirl aired its first season on CBS, but from the second season onwards it found a home on The CW. The move made a lot of sense and I loved seeing Supergirl mix it up with the other heroes on the channel. For example, I’ll not soon forget the musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash.

Melissa Benoist, who’s played Supergirl for the last five years, took to social media to share her sentiments about the series ending. She promises that, whatever we’re feeling now, the final season is going to be a wild ride we should brace for.

Earlier this year, Benoist and her husband/Supergirl co-star Christopher Wood took to social media to announce that they are expecting a baby boy. Whether this exciting news is part of the reason the show is ending is unknown, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

This marks the second Arrowverse (I’m always going to call it this) show to end this year, as fans already said farewell to Arrow, which started it all. But worry not: even after Supergirl ends in 2021, we’ll still have plenty of stories involving the House of El, as Superman & Lois will hopefully fill the void that Supergirl will leave behind.

Next. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier officially delayed until 2021. dark
