We’re “underestimating” the importance of the original Jurassic Park cast in Jurassic World: Dominion

We know that Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill are reuniting for Jurassic World: Dominion, but how big of a role do they have?

Jurassic World: Dominion is going to be every ’90s kid’s dream come true. As a ’90s kid myself, for a long time I’ve wanted nothing more than to see the original Jurassic Park cast reunite for another dino-adventure, and now it’s finally happening.

It’s been 27 years since the original Jurassic Park came out, and now, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill are getting the gang back together. And the thing about their participation in Jurassic World: Dominion is that they’re not just here for cameos. The trio is actually a big part of whatever is going to happen, and I have no shame in saying I’m freaking out with excitement.

Writer-director Colin Trevorrow spoke to SYFY Wire about the highly-anticipated reunion. “I think people may be underestimating the size and importance of Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum’s characters in this movie,” he said. “It is very much an ensemble and that element, the ability to take these beloved characters from almost 30 years now, and understand how they interact with each other in the context of a world that we’ve really never seen before and have not been able to witness until now. It’s very exciting for me. I’m having the time of my life.”

Of course he’s having the time of his life: he’s in the presence of Jurassic Park greatness!

The only person missing from this reunion is the late Sir Richard Attenborough, who played billionaire developer of Jurassic Park itself, John Hammond.

We don’t know much at all about the story of Jurassic World: Dominion, but based on that post-credit scene from the last movie, it looks like humans may have to used to our new dino-neighbors. Then there’s Trevorrow’s short film from last year, Battle at Big Rock, which gives us a frightening glimpse at what life among the dinosaurs could look like:

Not going to lie, I am not about that life. Can you imagine trying to run from a Tyrannosaurus Rex while trying to go to the grocery store? Or hiding in the fitting room because a Velociraptor is lurking? No, thank you.

But I will gladly watch it on the big screen when Jurassic World: Dominion drops in theaters on June 11, 2021.
