Captain America villain returns on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Pics from the set of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier show the return of a high-kicking fight machine of a supervillain.
Once upon a time, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was going to be the first of Disney’s slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows to make it to air. But then the coronavirus happened, and it was pushed back. At least WandaVision will still come out this year.
Meanwhile, the work continues on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the two title characters, working through a post-Endgame world where the original Captain America (Chris Evans) is now an old man very much out of the superhero game. The show will have a lot of new characters, like Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, a kind of “new” Captain America approved by the government. But there will also be returning characters, including a couple of villains.
Among them is Georges Batroc, aka Batroc the Leaper, a French martial artist who hijacked a ship in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You may not immediately remember the name, but you probably remember the badass fight scene the two had:
In that movie, Batroc was played by Georges St-Pierre, a famed martial artist who won UFC championships in two different divisions. He was back on the set for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as you can see in this pic from the @Onset.Unseen Instagram account:
If that means more excellent fight scenes like the ones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I’m all for it. In fact, that movie seems to be a touchstone for the new series, which makes sense given that it involved a lot of the same characters. It’s also still one of the better MCU films if you ask me.
Sebastian Stan drew this comparison a while back while talking to The Hollywood Reporter. “What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period,” he said. “So, in a sense, it was grounded and very much in the world as we know it. But, it’s also really jam-packed with a lot of massive, massive action scenes mixed with deep focus on character. These characters are getting so much more mileage for all of us to explore them. We can put them in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before because you now have six hours as opposed to two.”
There’s no release date for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as of yet, but bet on it premiering on Disney+ early-ish next year.
