See new Batwoman star Javicia Leslie in the Batsuit

Ruby Rose’s shocking exit from Batwoman surprised everyone. Now, new star Javicia Leslie is stepping is making the cape and cowl her own:

Earlier this year, Batwoman star Ruby Rose shocked DC fans by announcing that she would be hanging up the cape and cowl after only one season as the titular superhero. Showrunner Caroline Dries acted quickly, recasting the role with Javicia Leslie.

But Javicia won’t play Kate Kane, the character Rose played. She’ll be playing someone entirely new who will simply take over Kate’s role as Batwoman: Ryan Wilder, a more junior crime-fighter who steps into the Batwoman role by means yet unknown, although Kate Kane’s disappearance will have something to do with it.

Now that filming has resumed on the show, Leslie celebrated by showing off what she looks like in Kate Kane’s old suit:

Looks like a superhero to me!

And there’s more to come. This is Wilder in Kane’s Batwoman outfit, but Ryan Wilder will eventually put her own “spin” on the Batsuit. What it will be, we’ll have to wait to find out, although Dries revealed during a panel at the DC FanDome that it would reflect the fact that there’s a Black woman underneath the mask.

Production on the second season of Batwoman has been stalled a bit by both Rose’s departure and the pandemic, but with things rolling along, expect it on The CW next year.
