19 Star Trek veterans turn out as part of Trek the Vote event for Joe Biden
By Dan Selcke
Patrick Stewart, George Takei, and other Star Trek icons turn out in force to raise money for Joe Biden ahead of the election.
Joe Biden is leveraging the power of the final frontier to try and raise funds for his presidential campaign. Deadline reports that he’s hosting a fundraiser next Tuesday, and over a dozen Star Trek veterans are showing up to participate in panels and trivia.
The special guests include Star Trek: The Original Series star George Takei; Star Trek: The Next Generation stars Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Marina Sirtis and Jonathan Del Arco; Star Trek: Voyager stars Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew; Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz; and Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones and Santiago Cabrera.
What, no one from Deep Space Nine?
Also in attendance will be Andrew Yang, Cory Booker, Stacey Abrams and Pete Buttigieg, the last of whom included a photo of his childhood self dressed as Spock for Halloween in an email he wrote to potential donors. Having watched Buttigieg in the Democratic primary debates, this does not surprise me even a little.
Obviously, the event will be virtual; even if the pandemic wasn’t on, it’d be very hard to get all those people together in one place. Silver lining, I guess?
