We’ve finally got a trailer and release date for the fifth season of The Expanse, Amazon’s twisty sci-fi drama. December, here we come.

SyFy cancelled The Expanse — a planet-hopping, politically charged sci-fi show that’s been called “Game of Thrones in space” — after three seasons. Happily, Amazon Prime Video was there to pick it up, give the series a new influx of cash, and expose it to a wider audience. The fourth season was a success, and now, as we just learned at the (virtual) New York Comic Con, the fifth is right around the corner:

The gang’s all here. Amos is headed back to Earth, Naomi is searching for her son, James Holden is still at the head of the Rocinante, and Chrisjen Avasarala is making moves within moves. It’s good to be back.

The fifth season adapts the fifth book in James S. A. Corey’s series, Nemesis Games. The big bad this year is Marco Inaros, who manages to unite the various factions in the Belt so they can take on everyone else. Loyalties will be tested, lines will be drawn, and plots will be uncovered…in space!

All that and we finally have a release date: we’ll be enjoying The Expanse season 5 on Amazon Prime Video on December 16.

Next. The Expanse author talks the end of the series, possible spinoff shows. dark
