Check out the opening crawl for Star Wars: The High Republic

Lucasfilm reveals the all-important opening crawl for its upcoming Star Wars book series, The High Republic. It’s a very different time in that galaxy far, far away:

With Season 2 of The Mandalorian set to debut at the end of October, Star Wars season is well and truly upon us. And just in case we weren’t hyped enough, Lucasfilm has now teased some tantalizing information about their next great media adventure.

That would be the forthcoming interconnected comic and novel series, Star Wars: The High Republic, set 200 years before The Phantom Menace era. That about to be introduced to a whole cohort of new characters and connections to the current canon, which includes Jedi wookies with wookie-sized lightsabers. That along is worth at least a look.

And, courtesy of Lucasfilm, we also have the opening crawl, which paints a brief but vivid picture of what the galaxy is like around this time:

"The galaxy is at peace, ruled by the glorious REPUBLIC and protected by the noble and wise JEDI KNIGHTS.As a symbol of all that is good, the Republic is about to launch the STARLIGHT BEACON into the far reaches of the Outer Rim. This new space station will serve as a ray of hope for all to see.But just as a magnificent renaissance spreads throughout the Republic, so does a frightening new adversary. Now the guardians of peace and justice must face a threat to themselves, the galaxy, and the Force itself…."

As it stands, the series will be comprised of a number of novels for varying age groups, including Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, a more adult story set for a January 5, 2021 release. Then there’s Justina Ireland’s middle-grade A Test of Courage (same release date) and Claudia Gray’s Into the Dark for young adults on February 2, 2021.

Star Wars: The High Republic features the Jedi as we’ve always wanted to see them — as true guardians of peace and justice,” reads a statement from Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain. “This is a hopeful, optimistic time, when the Jedi and the Galactic Republic are at their height. But of course, into this glorious new era something wicked this way comes.”

"This initiative will give readers young and old a new corner of the galaxy to explore through rich, meaningful stories. Plus, readers will learn what scares the Jedi."

Here’s hoping you have a merry Star Wars season.
