Game of Thrones vet John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) is playing a science genius who figures out the Moon is going to crash into Earth. Oh s**t.

Independence Day. GodzillaThe Day After Tomorrow. 2012. When you need a giant disaster to tear apart famous cities, there’s only one guy to call: Roland Emmerich, destroyer of worlds.

Emmerich’s latest is Moonfall, about a mysterious force that knocks the Moon out of the Earth’s orbit…and sets it on a collision course. The cast is pretty impressive and includes names like Stanley Tucci, Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and Charlie Plummer. Until recently, Josh Gad (Frozen) was going to play KC Houseman, the eccentric genius type who figures out that the Moon has fallen out of its orbit. But according to Deadline, he had to leave the project due to a scheduling conflict. In his place, Lionsgate is bringing in Game of Thrones‘ own John Bradley, aka Samwell Tarly.

As Sam, Bradley was bookish and highly intelligent, if a little awkward and unfit for the violent society of Westeros, so this seems right up his alley. I mean, Sam reading up on how the White Walkers might invade Westeros is basically the Game of Thrones equivalent to a science genius figuring out that the Moon is going to crash into Earth. He’s got this. Sure, the movie itself sounds like a bit of a retread of a trend that faded out a while ago, but it’s definitely cool that Bradley is playing in that kind of league.

There’s no exact release date for Moonfall yet but expect it sometime in 2021.

That’s no moon. It’s a sp…wait, no, that’s a moon. Everybody run.
