Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie talks about the child she’s having with Kit Harington, her love of fantasy novels, and that time she shaved his head. Whoops.
Game of Thrones changed Rose Leslie’s life in more ways than one. As the wildling Ygritte, the show raised her profile, leading to other roles in stuff like The Good Fight. “I feel very fortunate to have been a part of that show,” she told The New York Post. “t has elevated my acting career.”
But the show is also where she met her husband Kit Harington, who played the broody Night’s Watchmen Jon Snow. Just a few weeks back, they announced they were expecting their first child!
“I am thrilled to be expecting, and I can’t wait to meet the new member of our family!” Leslie said.
So that’s one thing that Harington and Leslie have gotten up to in quarantine. They also adopted a puppy, and at one point Leslie gave her husband a home-haircut, with some unexpected results. “I was on FaceTime to a friend at the time,” she remembered. “He was like, ‘Can you do the back, because I can’t see it with the mirror?’ And I was so engrossed with my girlfriend, we were having such a lovely time, and I was like, ‘Yeah yeah yeah, fine, whatever.’”
I see this story turning soon. “I had the phone in my right hand,” she continued (Leslie is right-handed). “I took the shears in my left hand, and … I dug too deep. I dug too deep! It was rather hilarious, but also awful. Fortunately, he looks great with a semi-shaved head, so it was fine.”
Does he look great with a semi-shaved head? You can judge for yourself:
If you’re worried his famous flowing locks are gone for good, don’t worry: it looks like he’s ready for the barber’s chair again.
After months of quarantine, Leslie is finally getting back to work with the thriller Virgil, but it sounds like some of her quarantine habits have stuck. For example, since being on Game of Thrones, she’s taken a liking to fantasy novels! “I have very much enjoyed The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss,” she says. “I’ve read the first two books. It’s so well written.”
The Kingkiller Chronicle is indeed a good series, although the movie and TV adaptations are stalled. Still, maybe that makes it a good time to lobby to become a part of them? “I don’t know if there’s a part for me,” Leslie said. “What’s frustrating is that our leading man is ginger. If only he was a ginger leading lady!”
You can next see Leslie in the Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile is out on December 18.
