John Boyega has criticized the way The Rise of Skywalker handled his character, but he WOULD return to Star Wars…under certain circumstances.
John Boyega made an impact as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, although he’s recently criticized the movies for sidelining his character towards the end of the story. Feeling that way, you might think he’d be unwilling to return to a galaxy far, far away, and you’d be right…for the most part.
However, Boyega would be game to reprise his Star Wars role if the circumstances were right. Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment, the actor admitted he’d be interested in exploring Finn’s character in more depth…provided it happened on television. “I’m a Mandalorian fan, so Lucasfilm are doing very, very well with the TV shows,” Boyega said. “An animated show would be dope! We could do it from home.”
The Mandalorian has quickly become one of the most in-demand shows on TV, and Lucasfilm is determined to give us more of where that came from. There’s already an Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries and a Cassian Andor prequel in the works — so why not a story following Finn’s journey during or after The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker?
Or maybe they could adapt Colin Trevorrow’s original pitch for The Rise of Skywalker, which looked like it involved Finn leading some kind of uprising:
“That image of Finn with the blue flag, and the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick!” Finn said. “That would have been dope, man, hands down.”
An animated series would be just as interesting, particularly given the success of The Clone Wars, which released its seventh and final season on Disney+ earlier this year. (The spinoff series, The Bad Batch, is on the way.) Could Rebel leader Finn get involved?
For now, however, it seems like Boyega is done with Finn and the rest of the Star Wars galaxy. Only time will tell if he’ll return somewhere down the line — but if he does, we’ll be watching.
As long as we’re talking about Star Wars veterans returning to their roles, is there any chance we might see Liam Neeson back as Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn? “I’ve done the voice for Qui-Gon Jinn in a couple of the animated versions of it,” Neeson told Collider. “I can’t remember the names of them. Myself and Sam Jackson did our Jedi knights for those. I think I did two of them. But on film, I haven’t been approached, no. I haven’t really been following them, to be honest.”
If Neeson ever catches up on what’s been happening with new Star Wars shows, he might find there’s room for him somewhere. They’re certainly making enough:
