Fans of Lucifer rejoiced when the series was surprisingly renewed for a sixth season. Will it be back for a seventh?
Based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, Lucifer stars actor Tom Ellis in the title role. The series follows Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil (Tom Ellis), who abandons his long-held position on the throne of Hell to open up his own nightclub in Los Angeles, where he becomes a consultant for the LAPD. The series also stars Lauren German, D.B. Woodside, Kevin Alejandro, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aimee Garcia, Inbar Levi, and Graham McTavish.
Lucifer ran for a few seasons on Fox before getting cancelled, but was saved by the Netflix. It was previously announced that the fifth season would be the show’s last, so when news came down that there would be a sixth seasons, fans rejoiced.
It’s pretty unusual for a network (or streaming service) to say a show will end only for them to change their minds and make more. Is there a chance for a seventh season beyond that? If it happened once…
I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Speaking on Kings of Con: The Podcast, Tom Ellis sounded like the sixth season is it for him:
"Six seasons of the show is a real achievement. It’s been a huge emotional journey and I don’t think I want to do anymore. I know I don’t want to do any more. Mainly because I wanna know that we’re ending and because I’ve had such a great time. I think it’s only fitting that we have a proper ending to the show."
Even if you were hoping for Lucifer to get a seventh season, Tom Ellis makes a good point. Making six seasons of the show is an incredible feat, and it’s better for it to end on a high note than drag on forever. It makes sense that the show will end after the sixth season, especially considering how many times Lucifer has been saved from the fires of cancellation before. Plus, fans still have the second half of season 5 and all of season 6 to look forward to!
