The Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland has finally finished filming, the Y: The Last Man show has finally started, and Peacock cancels Brave New World.
Let’s hit some quick film and TV news. Today is all about beginnings and endings.
First up, The A.V. Club reports that FX has finally started shooting on its long-delayed adaptation of Y: The Last Man. The comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra tells the story of Yorick Brown, a normal guy who suddenly becomes very important where literally every man on the planet dies…except for him.
The show has had a tortured development, losing leading men and showrunners along the way to finally getting made. As it stands now (no sudden moves, we want this one to last), actor Ben Schnetzer will play Yorick. Olivia Thrillby will play his sister hero, Ashley Romans the government agent assigned to protect him, and Diane Lane as his congresswoman mom.
Yokick’s pet monkey Ampersand will reportedly be a CGI creation. As long as the show actually happens, go ahead.

While Y: The Last Man starts up, Sony’s upcoming Uncharted movie is winding down. The film’s official Twitter account just announced that the long-in-development adaptation of the video game franchise has wrapped.
This is another one that’s been hanging around forever. No less than five directors were attached to the project before Venom director Ruben Fleischer finally stuck around. Originally, Mark Wahlberg was going to play lead character Nathan Drake, an Indiana Jones-type explorer who goes hunting for lost treasure. Now, that role is being played by Tom Holland, with Wahlberg as Nathan’s mentor and friend Sully.
Uncharted comes out on July 16, 2021.
Finally, Deadline reports that Peacock has cancelled Brave New World, its adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s seminal dystopian novel. “There will not be a Season 2 of Brave New World on Peacock,” the streamer said in a statement. “David Wiener created a thought-provoking and cinematic adaptation. We’re grateful to the cast and crew who brought this world to life. We look forward to telling more stories with David in the future.”
Technically, production studio UCP is now just free to shop the show around elsewhere, but I dunno if there’s much hope there. The first season did leave room for a continuation, though…
