The first VR story in the Star Wars: Tales From Galaxy’s Edge anthology takes players to the High Republic to train with Master Yoda.
With so many people still staying inside and practicing social distancing, ILMxLAB and Oculus Studios’ Star Wars VR experience couldn’t have picked a better time to arrive. Launching next month, Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge will transport fans to Batuu’s Black Spire Outpost, the setting the Disneyland and Disney World Star Wars parks are based off of. It will also give players their first taste of the High Republic, a time period we’ve yet to visit in other Star Wars projects, but that will soon be explored upon in a new publishing initiative.
The High Republic marks a time of power and prosperity for the Jedi, so fans will get to see what the Jedi Council looked like well before it was nearing its end around the time of the prequel movies. And the first VR installment, Temple of Darkness, has another surprise for fans: they’ll be able to become a Padawan and experience Jedi training with Master Yoda.
Check out the trailer below:
The idea of training with Yoda while he’s still in his prime is a compelling reason to dive into Temple of Darkness, but it’s not the only one. The game also allows players to explore a temple teeming with enemies, a suspenseful experience that will feel like you’re inside the movies. Making it feel even more authentic, both Frank Oz and Anthony Daniels are involved in the game (the iconic voices of Yoda and C-3PO respectively).
“It’s thrilling to see the era of the High Republic expand beyond the printed page, especially with regard to Master Yoda,” creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing, Michael Siglain, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Temple of Darkness arrives on November 19 and will be available for Quest VR headsets.
