The cast of The Last Kingdom have begun to arrive in Hungary for filming on the show’s upcoming fifth season. Destiny is all!

Rejoice arselings! Filming on season 5 of The Last Kingdom appears to be imminent.

A couple weeks ago, we reported that pre-production had begun on a new season of Netflix’s medieval drama. Now, it appears that the cast itself has begun arriving in Hungary, where the show shot its first four seasons.

We know this thanks to some images actress Amelia Clarkson (Aelflaed, the wife of King Edward) has posted on her Instagram Stories:

For those keeping score, not only do we see Clarkson, but seated behind her is actress Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), as well as Stefanie Martini (Eadith).

And if you think that the trio is just going on vacation or something (not that people are really doing that in these times, but let’s go with it for argument’s sake), we humbly submit Exhibit B, another image from Clarkson’s Instagram Stories:

Sure, vegetables do not prove anything except good nutritional wisdom, but check out the flag in the upper left-hand corner: it’s the Hungarian flag, a sure sign the trio has arrived ahead of filming.

Destiny is all!

Netflix has provided a synopsis for The Last Kingdom season 5, which will be based on the next two books in Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novels: Warriors of the Storm and
The Flame Bearer. It has us hyped, to say the least.

"Based on books nine and ten – The Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer – the fifth installment will see Uhtred realize his destiny is more than just Bebbanburg: it is tied to the future of England itself. Charged with training King Edward’s first-born son Aethelstan as a warrior, Uhtred’s ambition will have an even higher purpose. But to achieve this destiny, Uhtred will have to face down his greatest enemy and suffer his greatest loss."

There’s no word on a release date yet, but with filming imminent, we’re getting closer and closer!
