Yoda channels The Night Before Christmas, Darth Vader gets the Emperor a gift, and Baby Yoda shows up in the trailer for the new Star Wars holiday special!
Once upon a time, the Star Wars Holiday Special was only whispered about in conspiratorial tones, a relic from 1978 fans were embarrassed to admit they liked. And looking back, it’s easy to see why, although it does have a kind of campy, ridiculous charm:
Now, the folks behind the new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special are looking to change that. On November 17, Disney+ subscribers will follow Rey and BB-8 on a time-traveling journey throughout the history of the series, while her friends try to throw the biggest Life Day party ever.
Several actors from Star Wars movies are reprising their roles for this, including Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO). On the TV side, we’ve got Clone Wars veterans Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn) and James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi).
All together, it looks pretty fun. Check out the trailer below:
And yes, that is Mando and Baby Yoda making a cameo appearance. Or more, for all I know.
“[Rose] has a really prominent role throughout the story,” executive producer James Waugh said last month, perhaps trying to correct for criticisms that Rose’s role was minimized in The Rise of Skywalker. “This story works in an A-B way. The ‘A’ story is on Kashyyyk where Rey, Poe, Rose and Finn are all trying to create the greatest Life Day party ever for Chewie and his family. Then the B story is Rey going off to seek knowledge at the Jedi Temple that takes her across the movies’ history … Rose’s role in this it to really takes charge she basically saves the day, in many ways. We wanted to make sure we got a lot of Kelly in as Rose was going to be an essential part of whatever [the Resistance heroes’] future was going to be after Episode IX and she was a blast to work with.”
And if you’re more interested in the other big Star Wars thing happening right now, YouTuber animator Malec made a very cool that mixes the intro to the iconic anime series Cowboy Bebop so it works with characters from The Mandalorian:
Man, Baby Yoda just gets cuter with every iteration.
