David Castañeda (Diego) on The Umbrella Academy story he wants to see

David Castañeda (Diego) shares what he wants to see in The Umbrella Academy season 3. And while we wait for that, enjoy the SFX reel from season 2!
The Umbrella Academy is officially a hit on Netflix. With so many competent superheroes running around the big screen, clearly audiences ready for a dysfunctional superhero team that’s barely holding itself together.
One of the chief dysfunctional superheroes is Diego Hargreeves (David Castañeda), a Batman wannabe with a mommy complex who can affect the arc of knives he flings through the air. We’re currently waiting for the third season, and Castaneda has at least one idea of a storyline he’d like to see come to fruition: “When [Diego] was in a band with Klaus and Vanya. I’d like to see that,” he told Daman.
Castañeda is referring to a one-shot comic called “Anywhere But Here,” which you can read online (or you could buy The Umbrella Academy: Dallas Volume 2, whichever). In that comic, Diego and Vanya (but not Klaus) are in a punk band. They have one more gig to do, but Diego stands Vanya up so he can go crime-fighting, once more underscoring how little she can rely on her family.
And who’s to say it couldn’t happen? The end of season 2 left us on quite a cliffhanger, with (SPOILERS incoming) the Hargreeves siblings returning to their own time only to find a different set of superheroes in their old house, led by their deceased brother Ben. Surely they can all find time to fit a jam session in there.
Naturally, Castañeda was stingy with details about season 3, assuming he has any, but did seemed amped about the cliffhanger. “I thought it was great,” he said. “It opens a lot of possibilities for our characters in the future.”
As for when that future will start, we don’t know. In the meantime, please enjoy the special effects reel from The Umbrella Academy season 2, which lays bare the technological secrets behind effects both ordinary (the door to a restaurant) and obviously doctored (Luther being thrown through a wall).
Expect season 3 in…I dunno, hopefully 2021?
