Director Ron Howard is hopeful about a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story
Could fans see a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars story? Director Ron Howard seems optimistic. The first movie DID kind of end on a cliffhanger, after all.
When it comes to Star Wars movies, Solo: A Star Wars Story is probably one of the least controversial ones out there. The look into Han Solo’s past proved an interesting ride for many fans hoping to learn more about the character, and it introduced some fun original characters into the mix. For that reason, there’s been interest in a sequel or spin-off story, especially one surrounding a younger Lando or Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra.
In fact, the movie ended with something of a cliffhanger involving Qi’ra, so there’s a place to pick up if the filmmakers want to. And although a continuation of this movie isn’t confirmed, director Ron Howard certainly seems to think there’s a lot of potential for Lucasfilm to expand upon its characters and narrative.
Speaking on the LCB Podcast, Howard highlighted the support and encouragement he’s received from fans hoping to see more from these characters. Nothing is currently in the works, but everything is on the table.
“This is not a spoiler, but I think there is interest in those characters,” Howard said. “I think there’s interest in gangster world somewhere down the line. But I can assure you there is nothing being developed right now. Either for a movie or Disney+. But one great thing is there has been a lot of affection shown for Solo in its afterlife. And so, of course, that keeps boding well for them to eventually turn it around.”
He’s definitely right about there being interest in the criminal underbelly of the galaxy. Arguably, The Mandalorian follows similar kinds of characters, and there’s no denying that series’ popularity. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to be satisfied with that until a Solo spin-off is actually greenlit. Hopefully we won’t need to wait too long!
