Superman & Lois writer says she was let go after fighting for inclusion

The CW isn’t extending the contract of Superman & Lois writer Nadria Tucker, and she thinks she knows why:

Arrow may be gone, but the Arrowverse on The CW is still alive and well, with shows like The FlashBlack Lightening and now Stargirl as popular as ever. The CW is looking to expand further with Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in roles they’d already played in other CW shows. Don’t expect to see the series until next year.

In the meantime, there’s some turnover behind the scenes, as writer Nadria Tucker (UndergroundKrypton) revealed on Twitter that her contract hasn’t been extended. Normally, this wouldn’t be especially noteworthy — writers get fired, with Tucker saying her bosses didn’t like her outline or script draft — but Tucker claimed that the dismissal came after she’d spent time in the writers’ room “flagging #metoo jokes,” “defending the Bechdel test,” and pushing for storylines involving women and characters of color.

Now, to be fair, Tucker doesn’t explicitly say that her contract wasn’t extended because the higher-ups didn’t like that she was raising these sorts of issues, but she also says that “the only way s**t changes is to expose it,” so the implication seems pretty clear.

Superman & Lois is scheduled to land on The CW in February of 2021.
