Renée Ahdieh’s Arabian Nights-inspired The Wrath and the Dawn duology is getting a television adaptation. Here’s what we know about the project so far:

From Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy to Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone novels, there’s no shortage of YA fantasy series being adapted for the small screen these days. And Renée Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn duology has officially joined that list, with 1212 Entertainment picking up the rights to Ahdieh’s story.

According to Deadline, 1212’s Roberto Grande and Hellcat founder Joshua Long will develop the series with Bron Studios’ EVP of Domestic Television Pippa Lambert.

Inspired by A Thousand and One Nights, Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn is set in a kingdom where the king, Khalid, has married many women over the course of his reign — and murdered each one by the time the sun rose the next day. Among Khalid’s list of deceased wives is the best friend of Shahrzad, the novel’s main character. That’s why Shahrzad herself agrees to marry Khalid so that she can enact revenge and take him down with her. Of course, things don’t exactly unfold the way she plans — and she quickly discovers there’s more happening at the palace than meets the eye.

The Wrath and the Dawn is Ahdieh’s debut novel. It has a sequel, The Rose and the Dagger. She also has two other YA fantasy series under her belt: Flame in the Mist and The Beautiful. It’ll be interesting to see how these production companies manage to bring her magical, folklore-inspired world to life.

There’s currently no word on when fans might see the television adaptation or if it will cover the duology in its entirety. It’s early days yet.
