Supernatural series finale will resemble an “old-school episode”
The Supernatural series finale is nearly here, and it wants to hit fans squarely in the nostalgia bone.
It’s been a long ride, particularly with COVID-related delays, but Supernatural fans are finally down to the final episode of the series, which will air next Thursday. And after last week’s big moment, it’s hard to imagine what else the show can do to go out with a bang.
It seems that the 15-season series will return to its roots at the very end though, something co-showrunner Andrew Dabb teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
It’s no secret the show has come a long way since the days of Sam and Dean traveling the country in the Impala and investigating strange occurrences together. The arrival of angels and demons — followed by a ton of other monsters — raised the stakes for the Winchester brothers over the years. And although the episodes heading into the finale will continue wrapping up such storylines, it seems that the very end will pay homage to John Winchester’s sons saving people and hunting things.
“Everything is pretty mythology-focused up until the finale,” Dabb said. “[The finale] is a little bit more of an old-school episode…We wanted it to, in some ways, hearken back to where the show began, which was two guys on the road saving people, hunting things…We believe it feels like a fitting end to the show. We’re happy with it and the hope is that the fans will be too.”
And after last night’s episode, it seems like things might be quieting down heading into the final ride. Sam and Dean — hopefully — will get to process everything that’s happened thus far and move onto more ordinary things. (Even if ordinary for them is still searching for the slightly less menacing supernatural.)
