A significant update has been released for the Doctor Who VR game The Edge of Time – one where players actually get to fly the TARDIS as previously piloted by the Ninth and Tenth Doctors!

We’ve seen plenty of content released over the past couple of months for Time Lord Victorious, the incredibly ambitious Doctor Who event featuring the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Doctors. We’ve seen books, comics, and audios released so far – and, as of this week, even new video game content.

Earlier this week, British developer Maze Theory released an exciting new update for their VR game Doctor Who: The Edge of Time. When it was originally released last year, fans got to pilot the Thirteenth Doctor’s TARDIS across time and space.

Now, they get to travel in another console room – specifically, the coral-based one as seen piloted by both the Ninth and Tenth Doctors in Series 1 to 4. On top of that, fans who’ve played The Edge of Time already are encouraged to do so again, while keeping an eye out for items related to the multi-platform event.

A major incentive

I’ll be honest: personally speaking, this sounds like the biggest incentive to try out the Doctor Who VR game yet. (Well, to be honest, it’s the second biggest reason I’ve come across to try out VR at all, after Half-Life: Alyx, at least.)

Getting to fly the Thirteenth Doctor’s TARDIS in the original release does sound exciting in its own right, but for many of us fans who remember watching Doctor Who when it finally came back, the nostalgia of Nine’s TARDIS has a great deal more appeal. Getting to face Daleks and Weeping Angels sounds fun, and even the involvement of Jodie Whittaker playing Thirteen is cool, but getting to fly this much-loved TARDIS? That’s definitely this game’s biggest incentive to check it out.

Well, at least to check it out on PlayStation VR and Oculus Quest. Currently, there’s been no update released for the PC VR version. We’re hoping that changes shortly, especially while Time Lord Victorious is still a current event. For the moment, this is still an exciting update, albeit one that only a limited number of VR players can enjoy.
