Trailer: Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley team up for Chaos Walking
Chaos Walking is a new post-apocalyptic drama with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley…and Nick Jonas is in there, too. Check out the trailer:
Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the recent trilogy of Star Wars movies, Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley have become household names. Now, the two are teaming up for Chaos Walking, based on the YA book trilogy of the same name by Patrick Ness.
The movie follows Holland’s Todd Hewitt, who has grown up in a post-apocalyptic society without women. The men in Todd’s world can hear each other’s thoughts through something called “Noise.” But when Ridley’s character, Viola, arrives, she brings a silence Todd has never experienced before. His entire belief system begins to change. After all, if women exist outside of this society Todd has grown up in, what other lies has he been told?
Directed by The Bourne Identity‘s Doug Liman, the movie will see Todd attempting to protect Viola from the men who raised him, many of whom aren’t the people he believed them to be.
The film adaptation of Chaos Walking has been through numerous reshoots, but Lionsgate is finally ready to show off the trailer:
In addition to Holland and Ridley, the movie will also feature Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo. Although the trailer doesn’t give a specific release date, it does tease that the movie will be coming soon. Hopefully that means 2021.
It’s unclear if the upcoming film will condense Ness’ entire trilogy into one movie or if the writers will spin the events of the first book, The Knife of Never Letting Go, in a way that makes it a standalone story. (It’s also possible we could see a sequel somewhere down the line, though there’s been no mention of that so far.)
All in all, Chaos Walking looks like it will have been worth the wait. There’s no doubt Holland and Ridley have the talent to do these roles justice, and the trailer is full of the same intensity as Ness’ novels. Even “Noise,” which could have been difficult to capture onscreen, seems to have been handled well.
We’ll have to wait until the full film arrives to judge how it stands up to the original story, but this first look is a promising start. With any luck, we’ll be able to watch the whole thing sooner rather than later. After all, we could use some new movies these days.
