Are those Dark Troopers?

At the end of the episode, we get a better idea of what Moff Gideon is planning. He is shown in a room filled with what appears to be Dark Troopers. These troopers were advanced battle droids that were nearly indestructible. They were meant to wipe out entire Rebel bases during the Galactic Civil War. They were first introduced in the 1995 video game Star Wars: Dark Forces, which is no longer canon.

However, a version of them does exist in canon thanks to a mobile game called Star Wars: Commander. The troopers’ appearance in Commander somewhat resembles the Dark Forces troopers. From what we can make out from this week’s episode, it seems the Dark Troopers’ design takes inspiration from both games.

What does this mean for Mando and the gang? It sounds like Gideon is hellbent on getting his hands on the Child again, presumably to make more troopers. It is revealed that the mechanic on Nevarro is working with the Empire and placed a tracking beacon on the Razor Crest. So it’s inevitable that Mando and Gideon’s paths will cross again. Does this mean we’ll get to see more of Bo-Katan, as she is pursuing Gideon for stealing the darksaber? Will Ahsoka Tano get brought into this?

Also, how does the Child factor in? Is his blood being used for the trooper’s power or strength? So many questions and not enough answers…yet.
