Beloved actor Alan Rickman kept diaries for decades, writing about his experiences on movies like Harry Potter, Die Hard and more. Soon, his fans will get to read them.

As a fan of Alan Rickman’s work, I was heartbroken when the actor died of pancreatic cancer in 2016. From Die Hard to Harry PotterAlan Rickman had an effervescent presence that was palpable every moment he appeared on the screen. Although I was never lucky enough to see him perform on stage, I’m sure that his talent was even more captivating in person. His voice and delivery were so sonorous and unique, but he could still showcase an incredible range of motion without even saying a word.

After his death, actors like Ralph Fiennes, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Sir Ian McKellen, and Colin Firth expressed their appreciation for Alan Rickman’s wit, kindness, generosity, and prowess as an artist.

If you miss Alan Rickman as much as I do, then you’ll be glad to hear that his diaries are being made into a book! According to The Guardian, Rickman had a collection of 27 handwritten diaries that covered 25 years of his life. The book, aptly named The Diaries Of Alan Rickman, will be edited by Alan Taylor. His writings include observations on acting, reviews of plays he attended, behind-the-scenes stories from the many movies he’s been apart of, and insights into Rickman’s daily life. It will be available in 2022.

Everyone loves Rickman as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film franchise, but I really started to appreciate him when I saw him in Galaxy Quest. Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Alan Rickman, this sci-fi satire is hands-down one of my all-time favorite movies and Rickman gives a brilliant, hilarious performance.

The movie is about a group of actors who used to star together on a Star Trek-like series. Many years after the show has ended, the actors are stuck attending fan conventions and have grown bitter towards each other. However, the actor’s lives are turned upside down when an alien species, who are under the impression that their show was a documentary, recruits them for an important mission in outer space. Galaxy Quest is one of Alan Rickman’s best comedic performances and I would highly recommend adding it to your watch list.

Alan Rickman is also known for appearing in films like Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Alice in Wonderland and its sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. The book will have a lot to cover.
