The Umbrella Academy season 3 premiere title, revealed
By Dan Selcke
It’s a whole new world as the Hargreeves kid go into the third season of The Umbrella Academy. We’re starting to get the first details:
The Umbrella Academy, Netflix’s offbeat drama about a family of dysfunctional superheroes, is officially a hit. The second season was better than the first, and the third, which will hopefully be coming before too long, could be even better than that.
If the show didn’t get a third season it would have been a travesty, because the second ended on a monster cliffhanger: after a season spent stuck in Dallas in 1962, on the eve of President Kennedy’s assassination, the family finally got back to their own time only to discovery something was seriously wrong. They arrived back at the Hargreeves family mansion only to be greeted by a group of individuals belonging to something called the “Sparrow Academy,” led by none other than their dead brother Ben.
You gotta watch yourself when you time-travel. This kind of thing can happen.
And now, showrunner Steve Blackman has revealed the title for the first episode of season 3. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to “Meet the Family”:
Unfortunately, that’s about all we have to go on at the moment. Odds are that the Umbrella and Sparrow academies won’t get along, and we’re looking forward to some superpowered throw-downs.
Looking to the comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá doesn’t really clear things up, either. The first season of the show more or less adapted the first volume (Apocalypse Suite) while the second season more or less adapted the second (Dallas). There is a fourth volume entitled Sparrow Academy that could provide some insight into what will happen in the third season, but it isn’t published it. Meanwhile, the show seems to just be skipping over Volume 3, Hotel Oblivion.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 goes into production this February, with a release date yet to be announced.
