Have your grains of salt ready? Then read on about how Alfred Molina may return as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 3, and about the She-Hulk supporting cast.
It’s the day before Thanksgiving, so how about some rumors to chow down on as you prep for the main course? These particular rumors concern future entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and should be taken with a healthy sampling of salt.
First up, The Illuminerdi claims to have gotten its hands on some casting calls for roles in She-Hulk, the upcoming Disney+ series about Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters (Orphan Black star Tatiana Manslany). She-Hulk is a little different than He-Hulk in that she: A) Is pretty much always in her green state; B) Doesn’t lose control, and; C) Practices law all the while. I’d watch it.
Anyway, The Illuminerdi has info on some of the show’s supporting roles. There’s Jennifer’s parents, who are in their 60s; a male coworker in his 20s or 30s described as “sweet,” “earnest” and “handsome in a John Krasinski sort of way” (sounds like a love interest); and Jennifer’s best friend Susie, for whom they want an actress with strong comedic abilities.
The most interesting new role is probably for a villain codenamed Lucy, “a glamorous social media influencer, Kardashian-esque with a dark side.” She’ll appear in five to 10 episodes, so you know she has a big role.
Is this someone Jennifer goes up against as an attorney? Is she a proper supervillain? Maybe both?
In other Marvel rumors, GWW reports that, according to an inside source, Alfred Molina is set to appear in Spider-Man 3, which is currently shooting. Veteran Spider-Fans may remember that Moline played the villain Doctor Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, back when Tobey Maguire was wearing the Spider-suit.
Is there truth to this rumor? It’s hard to tell, but there have been a lot of reports of people from Spider-Movies past lining up to either square off with or fight alongside Tom Holland’s current take on the titular hero. We know for sure that Jamie Foxx is returning as the Electro, who he played in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There have also been rumors that Maguire and fellow former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield could be in the mix. Sure, might as well throw Molina’s Doc Ock in there.
Word is that the plot of the movie will heavily involve Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). He’s an old hand at dipping into alternate universe, which could explain all the former Spider-Heroes and villains coming and going into the script.
We’ll know more when Spider-Man 3 comes out on December 17, 2021. There’s no release date for the She-Hulk show yet, but expect it sometime in 2022, or thereabouts.
